A recent article in The SuperYacht Report (Issue 162, June 2015), by Butch Dalrymple-Smith, founder of Butchdesign, discussed how it was the time to take action for the malaise in the current industry. Referring to the lack of promotion to the non-yachting community, where stories of costs seem to be the only thing that makes it to print, Mr Dalrymple-Smith highlighted the need to "counteract disaster tales of yachting and balance them with feel-good stories that present a more realistic view of ownership."
It's highly likely that this sentiment resulted in a `"hear, hear" with readers in the industry. It is indeed great that the Super Yacht world hits the mainstream at any time, and for that we should continue to be grateful, however the point is valid, in that it's always Simon Cowell, Bill Gates or Roman Abramovich who tend to feature in these articles, for the obvious reasons.
At Lomond Yachts, we are not only content with focussing on the selling, chartering and building side of the business, we want to make a real difference in the community, the industry and where it matters, jobs themselves.
As a new start company, the opportunities that we see are extensive but our reach is limited to the small marketing budget that we have with great services like Super Yacht Index, and of course the new world order of social media.
So we have enlisted your help. Yes, you reading this, who may be in the Super Yacht industry at the moment, you may be an owner, captain, crew, service provider or an aspirational owner. With the power of social media, growing networks and reaching a global audience, you, and we, can shape this at minimal cost.
When we heard of the challenges in the industry, and felt them ourselves, we took our lead from skills and experience we had gained through other online ventures, and adapted them for the world of SuperYachts. The result was SuperYachters.com
We want to support you in publishing articles to a different and wider audience than you already get. The way it's done is that we start to be a caring, sharing community. For once, it's not about who sells the most yachts, who has the bigger party at Monaco, or who has a non-disclosure with which billionaire (yes, you know it happens).
So, what's this all about ? Sign up at SuperYachters.com and see for yourself. You can get your publicists to use it regularly, or share an article you liked in your favourite paper or magazine online, or even post a video of that amazing new yacht you love. From there our growing community can share it on their own social networks at a click of a button (there's a link to 5 of them).
For advanced users we even have a clever yet simple tool which allows advanced scheduling of posts on Linkedin, Twitter and Facebook at times to suit you, thus reducing your effort and increasing the reach. We also have a small team of content experts who can take on the burden of posting often every day, to help reduce your effort and let you focus on selling your yachts or services.
This is how we do it at Lomond Yachts, and we're happy to share our ideas with the community at large where we all ultimately gain from improving our collective awareness in the marketplace.
See you online at SuperYachters.com
