Last month Nikki travelled to Antibes to check out the awesome facilities at Secrets de Cuisine – a purpose built MCA-approved training centre offering career development and food safety courses to Superyacht Chefs. The Food Safety Level 2 is a minimum requirement by the MCA (Maritime Coastguard Agency) for all food handlers on board. The Food Safety Level 3 is a valued-added course geared towards chefs and heads of departments. It is completed online at your own pace through a VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) with the 2 hour exam classroom-based. All courses are MCA-approved.

They offer several booking options that include:

Ships’ Cook Assessment + Food Safety Level 3 + online Preparation course €1,350 per candidate (instead of €1,500)

Ships’ Cook Assessment only €1,150 (instead of €1,250)

Ships’ Cook 1-day Practical Preparation Course €270 (instead of €300)

Food Safety in Catering Level 2 €180 per candidate (instead of €200)

Food Safety in Catering Level 3 €440 per candidate (instead of €490)

The Ships’ Cook Assessment is completed over 2.5 days at the Secrets de Cuisine training centre in Antibes, France. The food safety and optional, but well-valued preparation courses bring the course length up to 4 days. Feedback from candidates who’ve completed the prep courses show they felt more confident and well prepared for the assessment experience.
