73m SilverYachts superyacht MY Dragonfly visited the Whitsundays this month and the highly experienced crew guided the stunning superyacht through the Abell Point Marina leads with ease. Whilst in port the crew of Dragonfly experienced the premium superyacht berthing facilities at Abell Point for vessels up to 80m, as well as making the most of the range of concierge services on offer.

Taking this prime opportunity to recon the Whitsunday and Great Barrier Reef cruising grounds for future charters, the crew enjoyed some rest and relaxation, whilst experiencing the laid-back Whitsunday lifestyle.

Keen to contribute to local and environmental community groups, the crew have already assisted a local environmental non-for-profit group, Eco Barge Clean Seas, with their Whitsunday beach clean-up program. 26 volunteers collected over 226 kilograms of marine debris, with a total of 2139 items including aluminum cans, food packaging and cigarette butts and glass bottles to name a few.

The Australian built superyacht is the largest to have visited the Whitsunday region to date. Since approval was granted in August this year, for increased access for vessels over 35m at dedicated anchorages throughout the Whitsunday islands, interest in cruising the region has been significant.

Luke McCaul, general manager Abell Point Marina explains ‘’With the changes in legislation we are now in a position to attract vessels like MY Dragonfly to the Whitsunday cruising region. Our marina facilities and shoreside services are appealing to the crew, whilst the vicinity to the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday islands is perfect for planning an unforgettable cruising itinerary.

“ The economic benefits for the region which comes with visiting superyachts is significant and the crew’s desire to be involved in local community and environmental projects whilst in region is highly commendable.’’
