At this year’s Miami International Boat Show, YANMAR introduced innovative engines to expand its digitally-controlled 40 to 440 mhp line-up and announced new solutions through growing acquisitions and partnerships.

YANMAR Launches 3JH40 – world’s smallest CR Inboard Marine Diesel Engine

YANMAR is launching the latest addition to its family of new generation common rail (CR) diesel engines, the compact YANMAR 3JH40 inboard engine.

The 3-cylinder 3JH40 has been developed by leading manufacturer YANMAR as the marine industry’s smallest CR inboard diesel engine. With an output of 40 mhp, it will enable a whole new category of smaller leisure boat owners and commercial vessel operators to benefit for the first time from the efficiency and performance advantages associated with the most recent electronically-managed CR fuel-injection technology.

Offering minimal fuel consumption and exceptionally low noise and emission levels, the new YANMAR 3JH40 propulsion engine surpasses EPA Tier 3 and EU RCD Tier 2 emission regulations for virtually smoke and odor-free operation.

The 4-stroke, water-cooled 3JH40 is an ideal solution for new builds and repowering applications, specifically monohull sailing yachts and catamarans up to 45ft, small motor boats or sloops, and light duty commercial craft.

Weighing 192 kg and with 1.642 L displacement, the engine can be operated by either standard mechanical cable controls or the YANMAR VC10 electronic control system.

YANMAR Introduces 4LV Series High Power Models

Following the 2017 introduction of the 150, 170 and 195 mhp units in its new 4LV Series of CR engines, YANMAR introduces the addition of the two highest power engines, the 230 and 250 mhp versions, to complete the 5-engine range.

The 3800 rpm 230 and 250 mhp models feature an increase in output and different turbo models from the first three 3500 rpm units in YANMAR’s mid-section range of leading diesels.

Harnessing fuel injection technology and demonstrating the YANMAR 5x best-in-class features, the new 4LV higher power engines have been designed for power recreational boating and small commercial craft applications.

The engines incorporate the latest technology to enable extremely low vibration and noise levels for a smooth and quiet running engine. These include a counterbalance shaft and refined component design.

Featuring a class-leading power-to-weight ratio, the 4LV delivers a powerful low-end torque performance. This results in a stunning acceleration and sets these engines apart from others in their power range.

JC20 Joystick Now Available

YANMAR's common rail engine range is complemented by a choice of YANMAR controls, including the new JC20 joystick system for innovative maneuvering solutions.

Previewed in 2017, the easy-to-use JC20 is available from February 2018. It enables precise joystick maneuvering for twin straight shaft drive engine installations in combination with a bow thruster.

The new YANMAR control allows owners of motorboats, powerboats, and catamarans to dock accurately and smoothly by simply pressing the joystick in the desired direction. The JC20 automatically directs the speeds of the two engines and uses the thruster to precisely maneuver the boat.

The introduction of the JC20 completes YANMAR’s joystick control line up, already featuring the 4JH80 SPP (Steerable Propulsion Pod) joystick maneuvering system for large sailing yachts and the JC10 Joystick for twin sterndrive, all of which integrate directly with YANMAR engines.

YANMAR Strengthens Position in Industry

YANMAR has significantly strengthened its position in the recreational marine industry as the leading supplier of technology-driven marine propulsion equipment.

In addition to acquiring Denmark-based Flexofold, a global leading developer and manufacturer of superior low-drag folding propellers for sailboats and multihull yachts and supplier of the only composite fold propeller, YANMAR also announced the official launch of the game-changing Dtorque 111 twin-cylinder 50 hp diesel outboard engine following its agreement with German manufacturer Neander Shark for exclusive global distribution. YANMAR also partners with Vetus, manufacturers of the only 100% magnetic driven bow thruster.

Floris Lettinga, YANMAR MARINE INTERNATIONAL’s Senior Global Sales Manager, said: “With the focus to produce the best, most innovative marine diesel engines at the heart of our mission, we are combining YANMAR’s own proven expertise with exclusive technology from our new strategic acquisitions and partnerships to offer a unique range of products and complete solutions to a wide variety of marine customers. We have incorporated our innovative technology into our latest engines to complete our electronic engine line-up from 40 to 440 mhp, all complemented by our universal control system. Plus we are capitalizing on exciting growth and investment opportunities to ensure YANMAR is uniquely positioned as the world’s leading total system supplier.”

To add to the December acquisition of Flexofold, YANMAR is now targeting more growth and expansion with new partners and investments in 2018 and beyond.
