Who needs this event?

You may be aware that there have been a lot of changes recently in the world of Engineer training. Most of these have been for the better.
Course content has been reviewed and made more manageable and relevant and the new S.V. structure allows, for the first time, yacht engineers to work in other industries, such as fishing, tugs, workboats and wind farm vessels. But there does seem to be a lot of confusion about how the new system works.

The answers!

Our head of Engineering, Tim Moss, has been at the very  heart of these changes. With 33 years experience in the Royal Navy and an MSc in Engineering and Management, he has been helping the MCA to overhaul the old outdated system. To help cast some light upon the situation he has agreed to host a seminar for Engineers and Captains to explain how the new system works from start to finish.

 John Wyborn, Director of Training

John Wyborn, the Director of Training at Bluewater, will be there too, primarily to listen to your views. John sits on the Merchant Navy Training Board and is part of the Yacht Qualifications Panel, so he is in a good position to relay your opinions directly back to where decisions are made.

A lot of senior crew have been asking about ETO training. Bluewater's John Wyborn commented ''We don’t think that we need to add to the list of mandatory courses, but quite a lot of different training providers (not us!) have begun offering courses for yacht ETOs. Without involving the MCA, should we try to standardize what they learn? This could be done through the industry associations (PYA, MYBA, SYBAss), what does everyone think? We want to hear your views''.

Event info

Tim Moss, John Wyborn and the Bluewater training team would be delighted to welcome Captains, Engineers and those new to the yachting industry wanting to pursue this career pathway, on Thursday 29th November at the Royal Hotel in Antibes.
