Sailing competitions in Mallorca have a great partner: STP Shipyard Palma. Both in the Copa del Rey and Palmavela, Superyacht Cup or as has happened this weed in the TP52 World Championship, the boats not only use the shipyard for the assembly of their yachts and as a center of commissioning and maintenance but also for emergencies or unforeseen.

And a clear example is what happened last Sunday with the TP52 Provezza. Still for unknown reasons, she broke her mast in three parts on the first day of the competition, a problem that, under normal conditions, would have caused a team to withdraw from the regatta. But the competitive spirit of the Provezza team didn’t let that happen. The first thing they did was attend to one crew member who suffered a slight injury. Once they knew that it was nothing serious, the team set to work on the possibility of quickly replacing the mast so that a miracle could occur: a return to the regatta as soon as possible.

And so it happened. On the same day they were able to contact STP to request assistance, locate another mast in Valencia, get it to the shipyard along with the sailing yacht, assemble it and come back to compete as if nothing had happened. A miracle indeed.

At the first call to STP, Carlos Albons, Production Manager of the shipyard, made himself available to Tim Haines who led the operation and organised the logistics necessary to carry it out in record time. At 3:00 p.m. on Sunday the yacht arrived without the mast at the STP facilities, at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday the crane arrived to perform the manoeuvre of the mast placement, incredibly at 7:20 a.m. on Monday the mast arrived by ferry from Valencia, and at 11:00 a.m. on Monday the rigging team was assembling the mast that was ready at 2:00 p.m.. However, due to a problem that arose with the base of the mast the final rigging was delayed until 11:00 p.m. on Monday when the Provezza departed from the dry dock of STP.

The sign that the effort was worth it was that the Turkish ship came in in good positions during the competition yesterday, Wednesday and the end of today. It has definitely remained the undoubted winner of competitive spirit.

After this adventure, STP sent a congratulatory message to the winners and a warm greeting to all the participants, who already have a great partner for any unforeseen event.

And it is also necessary to thank the shipyard team for their agility and constant willingness to offer quick solutions to the unforeseen events that the yachts suffer when in competition to the limit. It’s because of these details and because of its status as an open shipyard that it is able to work with the specialists that the shipowner wants, and this is the reason that STP Shipyard Palma has become an international reference shipyard.Sailing competitions in Mallorca have a great partner: STP Shipyard Palma.
