S.M. La Reina Trophy is the regatta which opens the season of outstanding regattas in the Mediterranean and Varadero Valencia, which specialises in classic and sailing boats, participated in an outstanding way in this regatta giving name to one of its categories: the ORC 0-1. The shipyard has always been strongly linked both to the nautical events that are held in Valencia and to the competitions of sailing yachts whose repairs are often carried out in their facilities.

In addition to the ORC 0-1 prize, Varadero Valencia had its own stand in the village during the competition days where many participants came to spend the afternoon and greet old friends but also to request information about the novelties that this year are presented in the shipyard.

To the well-known rigging services, such as the periodic inspections of the mast and boom, the ropes, as well as the inspection of winches, notable specialties have been added this season that aroused the curiosity of the participants. One of them is the start-up of a carpentry business, The Carpentry, directed by Rafa Carrió, with experienced carpenters which offers expert hands and special care in the wood works, both for classic and modern yachts.

Another important novelty that attracted attention was the incorporation next September of a new 300tn travelift, giving option to yachts that previously couldn’t be hoisted in this technical area of Valencia.

The XXI edition of the S.M. La Reina Trophy had 3 categories this year, the ORC 0-1 Varadero Valencia with a total of 14 participating sailing yachts, the ORC 2 class with 13 vessels and the ORC 3 with 17 vessels.

Rats on fire, skippered by Rayco Tabares was able to retain her title of last year’s champion in the ORC 0-1 Varadero Valencia class with a wide margin of 9 points from the second place in the category. In the ORC 2 class, El Carmen Elite Sails, skippered by Jose Coello, won their class and also won the overall S.M. La Reina Trophy, unseating last year’s winner Maverta, who this time was in third position. And finally, it was Tanit IV, skippered by Ignacio Campos, who was proclaimed the winner of the ORC 3 class.

For Varadero Valencia is very important to continue supporting sailing sports because the large number of competition vessels that choose and rely on the shipyard to get ready for these competitions. The next regatta in which this space for the refit and maintenance of yachts has a fundamental role is Varadero Valencia Trophy, which will be held in November and that year after yeas is getting a notable increase in participation as well as significant notoriety in the regatta world.
